When putting together a playlist, hiring a DJ or auditioning bands, there are some key things to remember. No matter what type of style the future newlyweds have, here are the 4 most important things to consider when planning the most important day ever.

1. It Really is Forever Not only is the marriage for life, so are the videos. Does someone really want to remember their first dance to something super trendy like TI’s “Got Your Back”? Walk the line between classic wedding music and overrated, and choose something that will hopefully not be embarrassing or regretful in the golden years. This is especially important for brides and grooms who’ve invested in a great (expensive) video camera crew.

2. The Music is for Everyone

Bridezillas and meddling grooms sometimes want to use their wedding to show off their great, eclectic and indie taste in music. However, with grandma coming and a slew of elderly relatives, now isn’t the time to bust out the Violent Femmes and collection of indie rap. Instead, remember that a great party is made by happy guests. Does Uncle Ned really want to get down with Mumford and Sons?

3. Playlists are Really, Really Difficult

While it’s perfectly okay to try and put together a killer playlist for a cocktail party, it’s best to leave it to the pros for a wedding. An iPod can only do so much, and it’s impossible to seamlessly transition from song to song even if someone knows all the expert control commands. The goal is to keep people dancing, and they’ll likely leave the floor if there’s even the slightest lull between songs or a jarring transition.

4. Pick a Theme

It might sound sickly sweet, but the day is all about love, happiness and celebration. There’s no room for Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach” here (at least not until everyone’s on cocktail number three). Keep the vibe in mind, but know that it can range from sultry to peppy and joyous. 1. How to watch

The first item of business to decide on is whether to watch on a TV or a projector. There are obviously pros and cons to both options. In my daydream, I always go with a projector, but some people prefer high-def big screens. Projectors tend be more versatile, however – that way, when I’m not watching all of my favorite movies, I can use the space for other things, like gymnastics or slumber parties for the kids.

2. How to listen

Surround-sound is a must, of course. Now, I have a friend who has – and frequently uses – a record player. I’m pretty sure her kids are the only ones in their classes who know what a record player is, and how to use one. My point is, the sound is amazing. Music has gotten more portable but the sound quality has sort of, well, dropped off. That is, until some technology geek and music lover invented USB DACs.  DAC stands for digital-to-analog converter, and it essentially plugs into a computer via USB, then hook it up to the speakers. This greatly increases the sound quality in the home theatre.

3. Seating

Now, there are obviously different levels of “home theatre”. Some people just spruce up their living rooms and relax on the couch. However, the more affluent among us dedicate entire rooms to the home theatre. Obviously, budget is a big factor here, and remembering to stay within financial limits is important.  Personally, I’m going to have a couple of tiered rows of loveseats that are ridiculously comfy and big enough for snuggling. My home theatre will probably end up being the resident nap room. In general, though, making sure that there is enough seating (be it living room or home theatre space). Also, if having more than one row of seating, make sure the back rows are elevated so that everyone can see.

4. To game or not to game?

Don’t forget the gamers who live in the house (or stop by frequently). Home theatre systems can be awesome for gaming, so if there are people who are addicted to the Xbox or the Playstation, don’t forget to hook them up too.

1. Someone People Like “Likes” it

This is the impetus for a video’s popularity and the least predictable aspect of a web fad. All it takes is one person, a “cool kid,” a trendsetter by nature and a public figure by occupation. There are many of these people in the world. Oprah is a great example. Oprah can single handedly resurrect a novel, provoke interest in a social issue, and even influence politics. Simply because she is widely accessible and well liked. The same principal helps to explain fashion trends, hairstyles, and anything else that’s popular. It all starts with one person.

In the specific example of the Youtube sensation, the “cool kid” in question only needs to tweet about or “Like” the video in question on Facebook, and ball is sent into motion.

2. The Cool Kid’s Friends Make it an Inside Joke

Step number two has a couple of important elements at its core. First, an inside joke can’t be forced, it has to manifest naturally. This means that not only will a tiered system of “cool kids” need to have commented on, acknowledged, or joked about the video, but an underbelly of people who admire the “cool kids” will have to attempt to recreate, spoof, and joke on the original video, which they do both to prove they are worthy of the original “cool kid’s” admiration and also to create a new hierarchy, one in which they are the top dog and someone who was previously above them (even the original “cool kid”) is their admirer.

It sounds more complicated than it is, but if seen as a series of opportunities, wherein everyone involved has the potential to be part of generating a sensation or to become a sensation themselves, not only will everyone involved be more subconsciously enthusiastic about disseminating information amongst potential fans, but fans of a video that achieves Youtube stardom will also feel satisfaction at its success. Because they get the joke. Because to a certain degree, they were involved in making the joke funny.

3. More Views than Beiber?

A video doesn’t have to have rank higher than Justin Bieber (like Gangnam Style does) or have its own line of greeting cards and a commercial (like the Honey Badger video does) in order to be considered a sensation. Once steps one and two are achieved, the popularity of a video is basically locked in, but like many aspects of pop culture, this fame is usually temporary. While some videos stay relevant, and others may have enough staying power to make it into a game of Trivial Pursuit, or be featured in next weeks trivia round, it’s always best to accept that any video’s viral status can and will diminish.

Portland

L.A. has everything, from little-known indie bands to the biggest names in music. It can be hard to choose which show to go to in L.A. because there are usually so many happening each night. There’s never a dull moment in Los Angeles, and that also goes for it’s music scene.

There are so many cities across the United States and the world with thriving, supportive music communities. Add to that the ability to stream live performances on the internet and upload videos to Youtube and other video sharing sites, and no one is far from incredible performances– although there’s nothing quite like seeing an amazing band perform live and share an experience with their audience.

Ashton Kutcher has been training and filming all year for his portrayal of Apple’s former CEO Steve Jobs.

The JOBS biopic is set to debut during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January, where it will be headlining.

Trevor Groth, the festival’s director of programming, recently told USA Today of the film:

“We’re really excited to have it as the closing night. It’s really an inspirational and entertaining film about a man who has had such a significant impact on the world.”

He also said of Ashton playing Steve Jobs:

“My hunch is he got the job because he bears such a striking resemblance to Jobs physically,” Groth says. “But (Kutcher) really owns the performance.”

The TLC show debuted on September 9. It examines the lives of four Amish individuals, and one Mennonite, to see how they cope with life and technology outside of their traditional lifestyles. Cameras show the disjunction between controlled living with the Amish and Mennonites and the unregulated lives of city living. The driving history of 21-year-old Kate is revealed in the first episode, when other cast members accidentally open a piece of Kate’s mail.

Kate is venturing into New York to pursue dreams of becoming a model in the bustling city. When discussing the DUI, she describes it as “…the worse mistake of my life.” Kate attends photo shoots and is eventually given a contract with a local modeling agency. Kate also has to come to grips with controversy in her home community, as the episode progresses. Family and friends have confronted her with unease regarding her new lifestyle choices.

Later episodes of the series delve into the lives of other Amish and Mennonite community members, to examine their progress outside of their familiar environments. The show scrutinizes whether or not they will return to their communities after their travels, and what types of lifestyles they will continue to pursue. TLC works to capture the communities’ reactions to the cast members’ choices in the outside world away from restrictions.

Toward the end of this season, reunion episodes will revisit Kate’s DUI history, along with issues that other cast members are facing with authorities. Filming is underway in Toronto for RoboCop and some photos of Joel Kinnaman suited up as RoboCop, mounted on top of his crotch rocked, appeared online. In the photos below, RoboCop can be seen in his mat black body armor blending seamlessly with his custom sport bike.

In the film, Kinnaman plays Alex Murphy, a cop who is critically injured by Clarence Boddicker’s team of goons. What’s left of Murphy is saved by a new break though in robotics technology, turning Murphy into part man and part robot. Now, Murphy returns to the crime-ridden streets, where he battles with haunting memories from his past.

The August 9, 2013 release co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

“Rapper Nelly was detained last night in Texas while police officers searched his tour bus — and found HEROIN in addition to a loaded gun … and MASSIVE amounts of weed … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

According to law enforcement sources, Nelly’s bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca — and a police canine detected the presence of drugs.

We’re told cops pulled the bus over — and after performing a search, they found 36 small baggies of heroin (totaling .64 ounces) and over TEN POUNDS of marijuana inside a large green duffel bag (an amount roughly the size of a large bed pillow).

Cops also say they found a loaded .45 caliber pistol.

There were seven people riding on Nelly’s bus at the time — including the rapper — and they were all detained during the search.

According to law enforcement sources, one of the passengers — a guy named Brian Keith Jones — admitted the drugs and the gun were his. He was subsequently placed under arrest.

Nelly and the remaining five were let go. Calls to Nelly’s reps were not returned.”
