Dozens of San Diego area high school students have been suspended and banned from prom or commencement because of a twerking video according to one parent.

The video, created recently by students in a media class at Scripps Ranch High School, shows teenaged girls twerking while doing handstands to a YG song.

Thirty-two students danced and one student used school property to videotape the group outside class during 6th period.

Later, the student used school editing equipment to add music and post the clip to YouTube.

As a result, all 33 students were suspended as of Tuesday through the end of the week the parent told NBC 7.

The good folks at NBC took the liberty of explaining the hood’s hottest dance craze for those who aren’t hip to the game.

For those unfamiliar with the trend, twerking involves popping of the hips in a suggestive dance move. Singer Miley Cyrus recently posted a twerking video and talked about the move with Ryan Seacrest.

One Scripps Ranch HS student posted an update via Twitter, “Suspended, banned from prom, and prevented from walking at graduation all because of an awesome twerk video. I don’t understand.”

On Tuesday, another student posted on Twitter, “To show support for everybody getting suspended, we should all twerk at once at lunch #freethetwerkteam.”

Indeed, free the twerk team.

You can see the video that sparked the outrage of the school Principal below, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Authorities in southern Kentucky say a 2-year-old girl has been accidentally shot and killed by her 5-year-old brother, who was playing with a .22-caliber rifle he received as a gift.

Kentucky State Police said the toddler was shot just after 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday in Cumberland County and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Cumberland County Coroner Gary White told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the children’s mother was at home at the time.

White told the newspaper that the boy received the rifle made for youths last year and is used to shooting it. He said the gun was kept in a corner and the family didn’t realize a shell was left inside it.

White said the shooting will be ruled accidental.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

How many times does this have to happen before people realize that we shouldn’t be doling out guns to every man, woman and child? We need gun control now.

Police are trying to figure out exactly how to handle one man’s truly wasteful collection after 300 gallons of bottled urine were discovered inside a residential home.

According to the News-Times, Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) spokesman Dennis Schain said authorities found “200 to 300 one-gallon plastic jugs filled with human urine” during a search of the man’s home in Watertown, Connecticut.

Police have declined to publicly release the man’s name, as he has not yet been formally charged with a crime.

“An environmental contractor … was brought into help deal with this under our supervision,” Schain told the paper, saying DEEP authorities were called in to assess what he described as a home “in a state of disrepair.”

Despite the disturbing and unusual nature of the urine collection, Schain said it’s unlikely authorities will actually charge the man with a crime.

Well, there’s IS one silver lining to this story: this guy will never lack the essentials for a pee test.

When the word “lice” pops up in conversation, everybody seems to have the best cure. Remedies for lice infestation have been passed down from generation to generation ever since the little critters found their first head of hair to call home.

Since there are so many myths surrounding the cure of lice, it’s wise to avoid silly missteps and just buy lice shampoo. But, for those gullible or just plain adventurous types, here’s three wives’ tales you surely don’t want to attempt when it comes to lice treatment.

1. Go For A Swim

A common misdiagnoses for curing lice is swimming in a pool with chlorine treated water. Most people have untested assumptions that the bacteria fighting chemical chlorine will stop lice dead in their tracks.

Not only is this myth false, but swimming pools may even spread lice due to their ability to survive fully submerged in water for hours on end. So unless the whole neighborhood is looking for swim buddies of the lice variety, it’s best to keep those bathing suits dry until the lice die.

2. Shower Cap And Mayonnaise

This myth is untrue. It’s also disgusting and leaves mustard without a companion on the refrigerator shelf. Filling a shower cap with mayo and placing it on someone’s head in order to smother the lice is one of the most ineffective treatments around.

As stated above, lice have an uncanny ability to survive long periods of time without oxygen. Unless the shower cap is staying on a few days, this cure is pointless. The only thing a shower cap and mayonnaise will accomplish is hair covered in mayonnaise.

3. Fumigating

Considering the person(s) infected needs to be present during the potentially lethal fumigation process, the plausibility of this myth goes without saying. Yes, fumigating will likely kill any lice in the house, but humans are the main carriers.

And, although fumigating might kill the stray lice wandering the house, lice eggs (called nits) are impervious to fumigation. Once the house is clear, a new batch of lice could hatch and start the infestation all over again. So, avoid the family gas mask kit and go the safe route.

What is the safe route? Simple: lice shampoo. Not all shampoos are created equal, so be sure to look for ones with either Permethrin or Pyrethrins. Both are safe ingredients and both are proven to kill the new strain of head lice immune to many shampoos on the market. Lice shampoo brands like Nix and Rid carry these ingredients in all their products.

When it comes to the cure for the common lice, forget about folklore and buy lice shampoo. It’s proven, effective, and is much more efficient than a mayonnaise hat. So, kiss those lice good bye (kissing lice isn’t recommended either).

Key to the survival of a vast number of trauma victims since the Red Cross organized a civilian blood donation program in 1948, the amount of good done by blood banks in a given year is incalculable, and the approximate number of lives that it saves a daunting figure. The American Red Cross itself is responsible for circulating and processing about 66% of the blood donated in the United States, which is then sold directly to hospitals and suppliers. They provide information to the American public on blood health, and work to promote a sense of community that results in high turnouts at blood drives in towns and cities across the country.

Blood Bank Battles

Other than the small scale turf wars blood banks occasionally find themselves involved in — these typically revolve around circulation and supply in small communities — there are a few aspects of blood donation that blood banks have been battling since the beginning. The dilemma is that these problems exists within the blood itself.

Screening for donated blood is required before it can be distributed, and the WHO, or World Health Organization, has a series of tests that are recommended in order to distribute the cleanest, healthiest blood. These tests, thought, are mere recommendations, and the WHO’s surveys have unearthed that only 56 out 124 countries with blood bank and donation systems screen for the following contaminants:

the Hepatitis B surface agent

the antibody to Hepatitis C

the antibody to HIV, typically subtypes 1 and 2

the serologic test for Syphilis

These diseases are spread through blood contamination, and can be dangerous, particularly in third-world countries that don’t screen the blood effectively before distribution. However, there is a saving grace in the world of blood; it is called the peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC).

The Glorious PBMC

The PBMC is any blood cell with a round nucleus — the nucleus is the structure acting as the brain of the cell. The beauty of this round nucleus is that is causes the cell to act as a super immune booster. These cells, which include the lymphocyte, the monocyte, and the macrophage, are key in the make-up of the bodies immune system. And with new technology, they can be screened and separated from the blood, and used by scientists to find cures for infectious diseases. These cells are typically separated at blood banks, and then sold to scientific institutions. Invaluable in the research that immunologists do to help cure and treat immunodeficiencies and other terminal or debilitating illnesses, the PBMC is the godsend of blood banks and blood scientists everywhere.

PBMCs were a major component of the testing done on an infant in Mississippi, who was treated from birth for HIV and may be the first case of a patient cured of HIV since the disease’s onset in the 1980s. Read more about this case from the University of Mississippi Medical center.

The hardest part is dealing with the plentiful a$$holes who seem to enjoy getting other motorists’ blood pressure up due to foolish antics or a disposition that leaves them unable to get close to the actual speed limit.

A North Carolina couple couldn’t keep their composure, and it’s led to the husband getting a bloody face and them both facing charges.

WITN’s Dan Yesenosky says shortly after 4:00 p.m. Bradley and Christy Turner walked into the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office in Kinston for a road rage incident captured on tape this past weekend.

Bradley Turner is charged with discharging a weapon into property, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of the people, injury to personal property, and assault.

His wife is charged with two counts of assault by pointing a gun.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office released video of the couple, hoping that someone would recognize them. Sources tell us shortly after the video aired at noon lawmen received multiple phone calls.

The video captures the moments right before deputies say shots were fired into the pickup truck. It shows a man getting out of the SUV and asking the other driver why he tried to run him off the road. The man then punched the driver and the fight spilled outside with a passenger in the pickup helping his friend. The fight continued until the woman in the SUV came out with a handgun, and gave it to the SUV driver.

No one was hurt by the gunfire.

The heartless gangsters were force-feeding the innocent animals bags of blow — and then slicing open their stomachs to pull them out once they had arrived at their destination.

Around 75 people were detained across northern Italy and Rome for the scam, which saw 50 pups — including Great Danes, Labradors and Mastiffs — die.

News agency ANSA reports the suspects — who face charges of criminal association, drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession — had links to South American drug cartels.

The dogs were stuffed with the plastic packets that each contained 2.8 pounds of the drug.

It’s not the first time dogs have been used to get around customs officials.

In 1994 an English sheepdog was found trying to enter New York’s Kennedy Airport, having been flown from Colombia with 10 condoms packed with the drug inside its stomach.

Agents thought he looked sick, and ordered an X-ray, when they made the discovery.

This story is so sad and disgusting. What kind of heartless person, nevermind. It’s no secret that these kind of criminals have no real regard for human life, so why would they care about an innocent animal?

SMH! We hope the police throw the book at them.

Remember the days of school field trips when it was exciting to leave the doldrums of the classroom–until the bus pulled up in front of a dusty museum? Those days are over. Museums are fresh, exciting, contemporary and the perfect final destination for a vacation. It doesn’t matter if it’s a family vacation with the kids of a romantic getaway. Squeeze in a little museum time.

There are so many incredible museums in the US alone that it’s tough to narrow down the best–but it can still be done. Here are the top 5 museums in the US that should be on everyone’s bucket list.

#1. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City

The Met is an NYC staple and just as important as the Statue of Liberty when visiting the Big Apple. It literally takes days to see everything here, so plan the trip accordingly. There are constantly changing exhibits and a special hall just for kids ages 11-18 full of interactive displays. For a little romance, slip into the Temple of Dendur where it’s said that any couple who kisses here will stay together forever. Forget the Empire State Building–this is where romance blossoms.

#2. Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia

Everyone knows the Philadelphia Museum of Art–it’s the iconic American staple where Rocky raced up the steps when he was gearing up to fight Apollo. However, the real excitement actually happens indoors. Indulge in a traditional, ceremonial afternoon tea or check out the authentic armor of brave knights. Medieval themes run thick here, and it’s the perfect destination for fairy tale lovers of all ages.

#3. Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Indianapolis

People who’ve visited children’s museums before might seem to shy away from them. They’re often boring for those over the age of 8, dirty and more like a playgroup free for all than a museum. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis steps things up a few thousand watts. Filled with truly unique displays like Fender guitars, dinosaur eggs and old-fashioned toys, it’s a blast from the past for adults too. The bonus? It’s clean and very modern.

#4. Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Portland

Don’t let the title fool you–there’s non-stop action at OMSI. It’s geared equally towards children and adults with a laser light show (complete with a late-night Pink Floyd special), IMAX 3D movies, tons of science-based and fun interactive displays, a submarine tour and one night per months carved out just for adults. OMSI After Dark features stocked bars and adult-only fun.

#5. J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles

Covering 750 acres of land, this museum started out as a private collection of millionaire Getty himself. Four massive pavilions showcase some of the most stunning collections in the world. It’s an entire world unto itself complete with trams, multiple buildings and plenty of great grub.

Of course, getting to a museum of choice is another issue. Depend on a site like Flynrate.com for the best airfare and travel options. Once it’s booked, pack the camera and comfy shoes for an educational trip like no other.

Holding their newborn child in their arms is a dream come true for many parents – the beginning of a new life, a new part of their lives, and the start of (or continuation to) their family. But you don’t have to be a parent to even imagine the stress that comes with caring for an infant – the 2 a.m. feedings, the health scares, the lack of sleep, and the incessant, interminable crying. Fortunately, there are a number of things mom and dad can do to comfort their little one. Here are six ways to soothe a crying baby.

1. Simulate the Womb

Abruptly leaving the comfort of the womb for the real world is a traumatic experience for any baby, so a mother can help him or her remember that warm, snuggly feeling simply by holding their baby close. It’s a natural instinct for both mother and child. Gentle swaying movements & soft amounts of white noise can make the infant remember the good old days of being safe and cozy in the womb, and calm their crying.

2. Bathe Together

Shower therapy can work wonders for adults, and the cleansing, warming feeling of a bath can do a world of good, both for a cranky baby and a tired & stressed mommy. The sound of running water and the opportunity to hold and touch the baby will also help parent and child, tactile contact being a critical component of mother-baby bonding.

3. Gripe Water

Colic can keep any parent and baby awake throughout the night, but even though the exact causes behind colic may be unknown, there are a number of remedies. Most stores and pharmacies carry gripe water that help relax the cramping stomach muscles of infants with colic. It’s important to note that gripe water is not regulated by the Food & Drug Administration (it is, after all, a household remedy), and the combination of contents means that some babies may be allergic to it.

4. Keep Calm and Mother On

After a while, the sound of a crying baby could be enough to drive even the most doting of mothers over the edge. And that’s perfectly normal: every single mother will find herself wishing for just a moment’s peace and quiet to herself, away from her screaming bundle of joy. That’s where dads, friends, parents and in-laws come in. But when help is not at hand, mom will have to simply remind herself to stay calm, and not let the feelings of frustration and helplessness take command. Babies take their cues from their parents, especially their mother. Stressed mother, stressed baby; calm mother, calm baby .

5. Diaper Check

Even if the baby’s diaper was just changed, it’s always a good idea to check again. No one likes the feeling of being dirty, and a good way to start toilet training is to ensure that baby always has a clean diaper.

6. Hunger

A baby cries for many reasons, and one is to let its mother know that it’s hungry. Parents have to be sure to recognize the signs of a hungry infant (and not one crying for any other reason); and once those signs are recognized, a feeding will put the baby at rest.

Taking a child into your home and can be a terrifying, but extremely rewarding, for any family. However, many of these children will need additional care and attention, so all current and prospective foster parents should be sure to pay attention to a few different things.

1. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

A study conducted by Harvard University in 2005 showed that children in foster care are almost twice as likely to show signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as our US veterans are. While this statistic may be slightly out of date consider the recent growth in PTSD among soldiers, it does highlight one important truth: foster care kids have suffered trauma at an early age.

For foster parents this signifies a need to create a stable, loving, and understanding home. Additionally, emphasizing education will help parents ensure that their child will be successful academically – at present, only 1.8% of foster care children complete a bachelor’s degree program. This achievement gap could be credited, in part, to the fact that foster care youth often change homes; so foster parents should do their best to keep kids in their home as long as possible as the lack of permanent placement can aggravate feelings of insecurity and anxiety.

2. Sleep Disruption

The National Institute of Health conducted a study that shed some light on the high percentage of foster care youth suffering from sleep disruption, which is classified as the inability to initiate and maintain sleep. This is extremely common in foster care youth as these kids are used to need to stay alert, a side effect of being in a situation they perceive to be unsafe.

In order to help kids deal with this issue, foster parents will once again need to create a safe and stable environment and, additionally, help the child develop a daily bedtime routine that is both relaxing and consistent. This familiarity will help alleviate the stress that results from changing homes and allow children to perceive their steady environment as safe. Having rituals like reading together, or drinking tea, will help kids form a connection to their new caregivers that will also help them sleep.

3. Eating Problems

A third issue commonly seen in foster care youth is eating problems – either refusing to eat enough, or eating too much too quickly. It is also fairly common for kids to hoard food. This “vacuum mentality” stems from the idea that kids may not be able to eat for a long period of time, so they need to be sure to eat as much as possible while food is in front of them. It is a survival instinct that may be a result of neglectful parents or from families that were not able to consistently provide food.

One of the best ways to help combat these issues is to normalize food and regulate exercise. Keeping kids active will ensure their appetite stays healthy and that they burn the calories necessary to keep their weight regulated. Additionally, normalizing food by providing it at regular intervals and encouraging children to cook will help rewrite the kids thought patterns and reactions to food. Cooking together is also a great way to bond.

Being a foster parent isn’t easy, but it is extremely rewarding. While this problems may seem overwhelming, in most cases they can be reduced, or fixed altogether with some TLC and attention to detail. The most important thing is parents not be discouraged or isolated – staying connected to established support and resource networks for foster care youth is going to provide the community necessary to really give these kids a fighting chance at success.

Resources for Foster Care Parents:

1. http://www.nyfoundling.org: provides great information on working with and helping abandoned youth
2. http://www.fosterparenting.com/: has blogs, forums, and articles that can connect foster parents and help answer their questions
3. http://nfpaonline.org/: a national association for foster care parents
